Malabrigo Sock!!

Oh my, I really don't have time to read a zillion blogs, and I am certainly not hip enough to have been at Stitches to hear about Malabrigo Sock Yarn. But now that it finally reached me today through WEBS advertising, I'm thrilled. Unfortunately I'm on a yarn diet for the time being, that's okay, it's sold out anyway. It is going to be perfect for the Clapotis I have in mind, I'm looking for the drape. By the time I'm ready to purchase some, I will most likely be able to buy it off of someone on Ravelry, who knows, maybe knit-purl will have some when I'm up there in a couple of weeks. That's what I'll do, I'll call all the Portland area yarn shops and see if I can find it. This post has made me realize that I really do need to join the Malabrigo fan group. Well, Off I go to be a groupie.

Nothing Better Than Fall

In Southern Oregon, this is the best time of the year. The weather is gorgeous, the air crisp and clean. The pears and apples are ready, juicy and delicious. If I've put my knitting down over the summer, I always pick it back up in the fall. My favorite yarn colors right now are Fall colors, the earthy gold, orange, brown, olive green and plum. Unfortunately I have been neglecting my blog, due to the fact I've been making applesauce, pearsauce, and apple pies, and then of course the Knit Picks package. I ordered some Andean Silk in Lettuce to make Fetching from Knitty. The color of the yarn is fabulous. It just matches my mood right now. I also ordered Start Spinning and The Twisted Sisters Sock Book. The sock book was not all that impressive, Sensational Knitted Socks suits me better. So I sent back the book, some bare sock yarn and yarn dye. I've got too much going on to start dyeing right now. They're so many great dyers out there I think, I'll just purchase the beautiful yarn.

Lulu's Ballerina Slippers

First of all, Lulu seems to be feeling much better, she didn't sleep good last night, but she had a good day. We are all missing Finn and are anxious for him to come home, however, it has been nice for Lulu to have a chance to heal.

Well it looks like I am de-stashing. I made hats out of these yarns a couple of years ago, but I never wore them, they were too scratchy, now I know, only wear MERINO on your head. Anyway, Lulu doesn't have any slippers so I think these will make some great felted ballerina flats. I had to go to the post office today, so of course I went to the one in Jacksonville because it is much less crowded and oh yeah, Llamas and Llambs is across the street. They had a Fiber Trends Felt Ballerina Slipper pattern that was perfect for my project. They also had some Yummy Yarn, in such a beautiful Green. Luckily? I was able to get away with just the pattern today.

Little Miss Lulu

So last Saturday evening Lulu and Finn were skyping with Papa while I was folding clothes in the bedroom. All of a sudden I hear a loud "boom" and come running. Lulu of course had fallen. She was standing on her Stokke chair and slipped, Markus unfortunately had to witness this all, as he was watching over the computer. She hits her head a lot, she's part monkey and she tries desperately to compete with 4 year old Finn. So I am always afraid she has a concussion when she falls, this time she really did. Right after she fell she wanted to watch "Little Bear", I sat and watched with her and she seemed sleepy, I decided I wanted to get her checked out. As soon as I called Kim, my neighbor, to watch Finn, Lulu started throwing up. And then I lost it, aren't Mom's the ones who are supposed to tell you everything will be Okay? Well not this one, poor Lulu was crying with me, saying "Mama, why are you crying?" Anyway some how we made it through. The Dr. didn't feel she needed a CT, he didn't want to expose her to the radiation. We were there for a couple hours, towards the end, she was taking off her I.D. bracelet, ready to go home. That night she woke up around 2am starving, so we sat together on the floor and ate Graham Crackers. She is absolutely fine, however sufferning some of the symptoms of a person who has had head trauma. She's not sleeping well, but during the day she's still the same ol' monkey she always is and tries to keep up with her brother as usual. At first I was just happy she seemed to be normal, now I am petrified she is going to hit her head again and suffer the Second Injury Syndrome. Thank God, Grandma decided to come down and help me keep Lulu calm for the next 7 days til her brain has had a chance to heal. At the moment this is what is keeping me busy and is on my mind. Knitting while my little ones are asleep and looking forward to fun packages coming in the mail, Knit Picks, Ravelry, are keeping me sane.

My first attempt with the Drop Spindle

Well, I watched You Tube, but I it looks like I'm going to have to spend some money on classes. Oh well, I bought my Lace blocking wires yesterday at a welding shop for 60 cents. They are 3' long, stainless steel, perfect and I saved roughly $24. The guys in the shop looked at me like I was crazy, "you only want 10 stainless steel welding rods." So, for future reference, if you need lace blocking wires, visit your local industrial welding shop and ask for 3' long, 1/16, no flux, stainless steel welding rods, they'll be impressed you know what you are talking about.  I blocked the Liesel Scarf, it looks great, I'm going to take some pictures for my  next post.

Liesel Update

Mom's Liesel Scarf is complete, well I still need to block it. I'm in the process of hunting down some stainless steel welding rods for blocking wires. The hardware store is a great knitting supply store. The swift Markus made me is awesome, then I found the ball winder used at a Llamas and Llambs. Anyway, the scarf is beautiful, the Malabrigo Silky Merino is one of the best yarns I have worked with so far and the Liesel pattern is easy to follow, not confusing at all and no corrections were necessary. I'm not that far along in my knitting experience to figure out a mistake in a pattern. Today I have been organizing my knitting space and stash, every once in a while it must be done. It just would have been nice to finish my socks. Well, time to go pick up Grandma from the Airport. TTFN

Oh Malabrigo!

Mmmm. Oh how I love Malabrigo, this time lace weight. The color has depth and it is gorgeous, besides the fact that Olive is one of my favorite colors at the moment. I had planned on using this for Clapotis, I really wanted more of a drape than the original pattern has.  But when I researched it on Ravelry it seems the yarn sticks when you pull the rows, so the Swallowtail will be the pattern of choice.  First I need to get some Christmas knitting finished then I can work on my shawl.

Some STR Medium weight in Carbon is on it's way, I bought that on Ravelry.  I am so excited to try out the Socks That Rock, if it's as good as it sounds I may drive up for their barn sale.  It's just in Scappose, I have landed at the airport about a gazillion times.  Also there is a package from Knit Picks on the way!!  Books, dye, and some bare sock yarn, the one with silk. ooooooh.

Malabrigo from Heaven

Praise the lord my Malabrigo Silky has come, it truly is from Heaven. The colorway is spectacular. This is the first time my expectations have been exceeded when ordering yarn online. It may sound a little crazy, but if you love yarn as much as I do you will understand where I am coming from. Tonight I will start "Liesel" a lace scarf I found on Knitty. I am so thankful for the yarn swift my sweet German built me.

This afternoon was fun playing with the neighbor kids, it was one of those perfect fall days. Fall is right up there with yarn, newborn babies, pears, and proscuitto. Not necessarily in that order. The Rogue Valley has got to be one of the best places to be for my favorite season. The grower's Market is overflowing with fresh Apple cider, pears, and lovely homemade treats. My friend Jo is selling some beautiful handspun yarn there, dyed naturally with Lichen.

TTFN, kiddies are asleep, time to knit.

Heather's Blog about Yarn, Kiddies, The German Husband, Food, and the splendid area I live in.

After listening to Lime and Violet in all my spare time for the past 10 days, I have decided to join the world of Blogging.

This is where I am going to talk about the really cute things my kids say and do, then my knitting and yarn, of course.

Finn and Lulu or Liesel (this month) keep me pretty busy. But I am going to make every attempt at this. At least a few minutes in the morning.

Right now I am really looking forward to the election being over, and OBAMA as the great new leader of our country. The other big things in my life right now besides my children are YARN and knitting. These economic times are affecting us all, so Markus and I have given up wine, beer, and eating out so we can spend more money on our hobbies.

Through this blog I hope to connect with other mothers and knitters. And keep my family posted on my kids.

I'd also like to review things once in a while, like salon's and hairstylists. Doctors, restaurants, yarn and yarn shops.

Next blog I am going to cover the beautifying experience I had a Cielo Salon in Medford.

It seems I don't have much more to say today, It's time to knit.
